My Take on VPNs and SMBs on SearchSMB

I had an article on the VPN choices for SMBs that came out today on TechTarget's SearchSMB. web site.

You might want to check out this free application layer VPN (with much more!). Downloadable at www.secureida.com - Skype business model.

Check out what Doug Brown of DABCC.COM had to say here:

You heard of it? Would be interested in your take if so; or discussing it with you!

I don't understand your restriction that IPsec is for full network access.
SSL VPNs work just fine.

You also miss the perfect setup for SMBs SBS and it's built in SSL VPN.
Easy, cheap, and reasonably secure

I would be interested in you expounding on your comment about IPsec and "considerable configuration, after that". From my knowledge this is not necessarily true.

I don't think you got the full story on SSL VPNs. You should take a look at OpenVPN. It works more like a network appliance than the SSL VPNs you are referring to. It uses OSI layer 2 or 3 tunnels, much like IPSec does, but it is not as complex and less dependent on platform, making it a great solution for SMBs, who may want more than the traditional SSL VPN, without the cost and headache of IPSec. No discussion of VPN solutions is complete without a look at OpenVPN.

The site is http://www.openvpn.org.
